This is the third installment in my series of Sylvania 6SN7GT reviews, and this particular tube is incredibly rare, far more so than the famous “Bad Boys,” in fact, it is so elusive that I had to take the photos myself. These Sylvania 6SN7GT Gray T-Plates were produced during the same era as the Bad Boys, with the specific pair I tested dating back to 1952.
Sound-wise, I actually find myself preferring these to the Bad Boys, the midrange is noticeably more liquid and the bass is very tight without ever becoming overpowering. This is a remarkably balanced tube anchored by a truly glorious midrange. If you happen to find a pair, I suggest grabbing them immediately, because they often sell for half the price of the black plate versions simply because so few people are aware of their existence.
