I always liked ECC85 tubes – they have a wonderful, ballsy sound and way underrated. I think outside of ECC40, these are the tubes if you want to have dynamic, punch sound in your system without sacrificing delicacy or transparency. These Mullard tubes from mid to late 50s didn’t disappoint (the one that I found in my collection was from 1955!!!). I might say that its is my favorite ECC85 tube now (until something better comes this way :). Very powerful and warm sound with fantastic sound stage and great mid-range. Hard to find, but could still be located and bought without selling your firstborn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
