Tesla is continuing to deliver on their promise of excellent sound. ECC802S is not an exception. This tube requires very long burn in time, but with 10,000 heater life I guess it’s not a problem. ECC802S has a different internal construction compared to other 12au7 tubes. Longer plates and more solid structure. The tubes sounds extremely good right from the get go, but opens up after burn in even more becoming very relaxed and superbly liquid. I think this is the main strength of the tube – it’s as musical, liquid as they come. Performers truly sing – this is one of the reasons, we all like tube equipment – because it sounds like music, not just like sound. Very tight and controlled bass with very transparent top. Not as sweet as Amperex, but hey, that’s hard to achieve for any tube 🙂 This is definitely one of the leaders of the 12au7 family. Superb. You should hear how well string instruments sound through this tube – listening to it as I write the review 🙂 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
A special tube. Balanced and lifelike with great in-room presence. Not lush…leans more to the accurate side of the spectrum, but without any harshness. Also very musical with good speed and tempo. I like this tube so much I had to buy a 2nd matched quad just in case I use up the 10,000+ hours 🙂
