The Siemens E81CC Triple Mica is a perfect testament to the adage that great things come in small packages. This is undoubtedly one of the finest 12AT7/ECC81 variants I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. As a “special quality” version of the standard ECC81, the E81CC was manufactured under a much stricter production process, resulting in a tube that is relaxed, transparent, dynamic, and powerful.
The sonic profile is characterized by a very strong bass and what I consider to be the best midrange of all 12AT7 tubes; even the highly regarded Sylvania JHS 12AT7 doesn’t quite reach this level of performance. With a very extended top end, the Siemens E81CC remains one of the most balanced and musical options for any high-end driver stage.
