  1. After spending some time with a new 211 amplifier, I’ve had the chance to evaluate the stock Shuguang 211 tubes that came pre-installed. While they serve as a functional starting point, they leave much to be desired for the serious audiophile.

On the positive side, these tubes are reliable in a literal sense: they are indeed vacuum tubes and they function in a 211-base circuit without technical hiccups or compatibility issues. However, functionality is where the praise ends. The 211 architecture is celebrated for its sublime midrange and airy delicacy, but the Shuguang variant fails to capture that magic. While the bass response is notably strong, the midrange feels uninspired and flat. The most significant drawback is the high-end frequency response, which comes across as harsh, brittle, and fatiguing during extended listening sessions.

It is important to note that Shuguang is one of the oldest and largest vacuum tube manufacturers in China, often acting as the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for many high-end audio brands. While they produce premium tiers like the “Treasure” or “Psvane” (a spin-off) series which are highly regarded, their standard 211 tubes are generally considered “entry-level” or “industrial grade.” These are designed for affordability and durability rather than nuance, often found in stock amplifiers to keep the initial purchase price down.

Final Verdict: If you are looking to truly experience what a 211 or 845 amplifier is capable of, stay away from these stock tubes. They lack the refinement this class of amplification deserves. Investing in a more “classy” or premium set of glass will significantly unlock the harmonic richness your system is currently missing.
